The quick answer is no.
If you haven’t read my study, “Was Enoch taken to heaven” take some time to read it because I give some preliminary information in the beginning about death that is very important to understand.
In this study I will only talk about Moses because I have learned that if a study is too long, no one will read it.
Moses and Elijah, as well as everyone else who has died are in their graves waiting for the resurrection. Pay attention to Martha because she knows what she is talking about.
John 11:21-24 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.” Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.” “Yes,” Martha said, “he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day.”
There is only one person who has ever died, rose form the dead and entered heaven never to die again.
John 3:13 No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.
Romans 6:9 We know that Christ was raised from the dead. He will never die again. Death has no more power over Him.
Now, let’s go back to Martha’s statement when she said, “Yes, he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day.”
The great hope we have in Christ is to be raised from the dead on the last day, never to die again.
Acts 24:15 I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the just and the unjust.
Pay very closes attention to Hebrews 11 because it talks about many faithful people of the past who died without receiving the promise of heaven, Moses, Elijah and Enoch are all part of that group who died without receiving the promise.
Hebrews 11:13 All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.
Now, watch this and keep in mind what Martha said about everyone being raised together, at the same time, on the last day.
Hebrews 11:39-40 God was pleased with all of them because of their faith. But not one of them received God’s great promise. God planned something better for us. He wanted to make us perfect. Of course, he wanted those great people to be made perfect too, but not before we could all enjoy that blessing together.
Did you catch it? Everyone including Moses, Elijah, Enoch and us will all receive the promise together, on the last day. In other words, no one has gone to heaven, except for Messiah, but He’s coming back for us.
1 Corinthians 15:20-23 Christ has been raised from the dead! He was the first One to be raised from the dead and all those who are in graves will follow. Death came because of a man, Adam. Being raised from the dead also came because of a Man, Christ. All men will die as Adam died. But all those who belong to Christ will be raised to new life. This is the way it is: Christ was raised from the dead first. Then all those who belong to Christ will be raised from the dead when He comes again.
So, what happened to Moses? He died as was buried, and to this very day, no one knows where he was buried.
Deuteronomy 34:5-6 So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor abated. And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth Peor; but no one knows his grave to this day.
But didn’t Messiah meet with Moses and Elijah on the mount of transfiguration? Yes, but not as a literal reality. In other words, it was a vision.
Matthew 17:9 Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, "Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.''
A vision is not a literal reality, in other words, it’s not something that was literally happening when they saw it. The vision was shown to them to bring understanding about the New Covenant. The old covenant consisted of the (Moses) the Torah and (Elijah) the Prophets; this is all they had to learned from but now the Son is being introduced as the one we should listen to.
Matthew 17:1-5 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!”
Today, we have the Son to give us understanding of the Torah and the Prophets.
John 4:25 The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
Peter touches on the same vision when he says prophecy is a more sure word. Why would he say that? Because visions, which are not literal realities, can be misleading and be used to deceive people.
2 Peter 1:16-19 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when there came such a voice to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And this voice, which came from Heaven, we heard when we were with Him on the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy, unto which ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts.
Some people will say, “But didn’t Michael fight with the devil over Moses’ body?”
Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
The answer is no; the devil did not fight with Michael over Moses’ body. There is not one verse in the entire Bible that says, Michael fought with the Devil over Moses’ body.
Let me explain:
The word, “Body” is the Greek word, “Soma” Strong's G4983, which means is can also mean “Slave or Servant”
Revelation 18:13 and cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, and frankincense; wine and oil, flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and carriages, slaves (G4983), and even human lives.
Joshua was a high priest, the priesthood was created to help Moses govern Israel, which means Joushua was a servant to Moses.
Exodus 33:11 So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.
Joshua 1:1 And it was done after the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, that the Lord spake to Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, and said to him.
Where, in the only place in the Bible, do we find Michael disputing over Moses’ servant Joshau? We find it in Zechariah 3:1-5.
Zechariah 3:1-2 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. And the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan!
As a side note, this is very important to see because it tells us that Michael, and the Angel of the LORD, are the same Being, which is probably why Satan did not want anyone to know it, so it’s been hidden.
In conclusion:
Moses died and was buried and never received the promise of heaven, just like what happens to everyone. He will be raised from the dead together with all of us, on the last day, just as God promised. It is then that he and the rest of us will inherit the promise together.
Hebrews 11:13 All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.
Hebrews 11:39-40 God was pleased with all of them because of their faith. But not one of them received God’s great promise. God planned something better for us. He wanted to make us perfect. Of course, he wanted those great people to be made perfect too, but not before we could all enjoy that blessing together.
We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore, comfort one another with these words.
Notice the last sentence, “Therefore, comfort one another with these words.” The hope of the resurrection should bring comfort to those who have loved ones who have died. Why would the hope of the dead coming back to life comfort people how have family members who are dead if they are already alive in heaven? And if they are already alive in heaven, why in the world would they need to get back into the grave only to be raised again? They wouldn’t, that’s Babylon i.e. confusion.
