Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
One of the most important things to see and understand in the above verse is the words, "Shall be". The words “Shall be” means that when Isaiah spoke them, those titles were not yet a reality, which means, they were prophesied to happen sometime in the future.
The words, "Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given". The Son who was given is Michael and the Child who was born was Yahshua. It was not uncommon for God to change a person's name to fit their new ministry, such as with Abraham, Paul and Peter. The name "Michael" means "Who is like God" and the name "Yahshua" means "YAH Saves".
Michael, the Archangel, was a spirit being who took on the sinful flesh of humanity. Notice how angels are spirit beings.
Hebrews 1:14 Angels are merely spirits sent to serve people who are going to be saved.
This is why Michael said to His Father, "A body You have given me".
Hebrews 10:5 When Christ came into the world, He said to His Father, “Sacrifices and offerings are not what You want, but You have given Me my body.
I find is interesting how the KJV identifies the fleshly body that was given to Michael as a “Holy thing”. The “holy thing” is referring to the fleshly body that was given to the Son through a miraculous birth.
Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, the Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore, also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Michael, the Archangel, was a spirit being prior to taking on humanities’ flesh. This means that Michael, in His prehuman form was the Bright Morning Star Angel, and was also the offspring of Davin in His human form.
Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”
Remember, “Morning Stars” and “Sons of God” are terms used for angels.
Job 38:4-7 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. Who determined its dimensions and stretched out the surveying line? What supports its foundations, and who laid its cornerstone when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
When Isaiah said, “And the government shall be on His shoulders” he is referring to the future Kingdom of God, the new creation.
Hebrews 1:8 But God says about His Son, “You are God, and you will rule as King forever! Your royal power brings about justice.
The title “God” is not a personal name given to any one particular being, it’s a title given to one who has authority and since the Almighty God gave His Son all authority in heaven and on earth, the Son holds the title “God” but He is “Mighty God” not “Almighty God”.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Even Satan also holds the title, “God” because he is the ruler of this world. In the end Satan will be cast out because he holds the title “God” through deception.
2 Corinthians 4:4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe.
John 12:31 The time for judging this world has come, when Satan, the ruler of this world, will be cast out.
The Son was given all authority in heaven and on earth, but not over the Father, thus the title, “Mighty God” not “Almighty God” which means, the Father still holds authority over the Son.
1 Corinthians 15:25-27 For Christ must reign until he humbles all his enemies beneath his feet. And the last enemy to be destroyed is death. For the Scriptures say, “God has put all things under his authority.” Of course, when it says, “all things are under his authority,” that does not include God himself, who gave Christ his authority.
1 Corinthians 11:3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
When Isaiah says, “He shall be called, “Wonderful Counsellor” he is referring to the Son’s new ministry being the life-giving Spirit of the New Covenant.
1 Corinthians 15:45 The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam—that is, Christ—is a life-giving Spirit.
The Son was not given this power to give life until His glorification through His resurrection.
John 5:26 The Father has life in himself, and he has granted that same life-giving power to his Son.
Acts 2:33 Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.
John 7:38-39 If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from that person’s heart, as the Scripture say.” Jesus was talking about the Holy Spirit. The Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been raised to glory. But later, those who believed in Jesus would receive the Spirit.
When Isaiah uses the titles, “Mighty God” and “Everlasting Father” he’s using Kingdom and new creation language. We already looked at the title “Mighty God” is not “Almighty God” in the same way, “Everlasting Father," is not "Eternal Father". The titles "Everlasting Father" and "Eternal Father" are two different things. One always existed while the other had a beginning with no end.
The Son becomes our “Everlasting Father” when He resurrects us from the dead.
When the Eternal Father said this about His Son, "Today I have begotten You" He was saying it in light of resurrecting the Son from the dead.
Acts 13:33 God has fulfilled this for us, their children, by raising up Jesus from the dead, as it is written in the second Psalm: You are My Son; today I have become your Father.
Psalms 2:7 The king proclaims the LORD’s decree: “The LORD said to me, ‘You are My son. Today I have become your Father.
This means that when Yahshua raises us from the dead, He too could say, "Today I have begotten you" which gives Him the title "Everlasting Father".
John 5:25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.
Did you notice how it’s the Son’s voice who raises the dead? The Son’s voice is the voice of Michael, the Arcangel because they are one in the same.
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a loud shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves.
Isaiah says, “He shall be called, “Prince of Peace” because Michael is the Great Prince who raises the dead and bring peace through the New Creation.
Daniel 12:1-2 At that time Michael, the Great Prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.
To really grasp and understand Isaiah 9:6 you must learn to make a distinction between the Genesis creation, which the Almighty alone created all by Himself and the New Creation, which He created though His Son. The old Genesis creation has to do with birds, trees, fish, Adam and Eve, and the “new creation” having to do with the government of the Kingdom of God, the Church, which is the body of Christ. The new creation has to do with things IN Heaven and things ON earth, while the old creation is about the creation of “THE heaven” and “THE earth”.
When you read Colossians 1:15-18, I want you to notice how it’s all Kingdom language referring to the New Creation and the government of God, not the Genesis creation having to do with birds, trees, fish and so on.
Colossians 1:15-18 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For through Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is above all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
The Son is the firstborn over the new creation having to do with His resurrection from the dead, not His birth through Mary or some pre-Genesis birth, Michael was a created Angel, like the rest of them, but He was God’s Chief Messenger. Colossians 1:15-18 is all about new things being done “IN heaven” and new things being done “ON earth” this is not the Genesis creation of “THE heaven” and “THE earth”. He is the Head of the church, and the firstborn form the dead, which is new creation language, not Genesis creation language. The New Creation is the great hope we have in Christ, so it’s found all throughout the Bible as the world or age to come, the Kingdom of God.
Amen…
